Hello everyone! Since the weather in Greece is indecisive, I feel like I am stuck between autumn and winter. And I say stuck because it seems we won’t be getting out any time soon. One thing I hate when the weather is like this, is the daily outfit struggle. Which colors to wear? Should I go lighter or darker? Should I throw on a coat or will I die from a heat stroke? In the midst of all this, I decided to stop purchasing beauty products, as I got quite a few things on the Sephora VIB Rouge 20% off event. Therefore, the only beauty items I allowed myself to indulge until my package arrives, are nail polishes. They seem totally harmless right?  I am a nail polish addict and I don’t care to hide it. My favorite brand is Erre Due. I absolutely love and have been loving this brand for the past 3 to 4 years, as it has good quality and most importantly, it is long-lasting. For me, a nail polish is long-lasting nail polish if it will make it through a week with just some minor chipping.

Once H&M launched their new beauty department, I decided to try out their brand new nail polishes. The reason was simple: the variety of colors was huge! Plus they are 1 euro cheaper than the Erre Due ones. At first I was a bit sceptical because I had tried a few H&M nail polishes in the past, and although they were very pretty, they completely chipped off after 2 or 3 days.  Therefore, I didn’t have high expectations when I purchased the first nail polish. However, I was proved extremely wrong. First of all, the brush of the nail polish is short and wider (like a paddle brush) compared to everything else I have ever used, which helps applying the polish faster and with more precision. In 5 minutes I was done and I barely made a mess around my nails. Secondly, and most surprisingly, the polish dried fast. Like extremely fast. Like 5 minutes fast. This shocked me beyond words. As I was used to wait for at least 30 minutes for my nails to get properly dry, 5-10 minutes seemed surreal. In simply 20 minutes, the second coat was on and dried already. Usually it was taking me a full hour to apply the two coats and wait for them to dry decently. Now, it’s only about 20 minutes which is insane! Besides that, the color was so “pigmented” that I didn’t really need a second coat, and it was so shiny that I forgot to apply a top coat and didn’t realize until the next day. By that time I was already very excited and happy with the new nail polish, however, it had to pass one last test; the test of longevity. As I mentioned before, a good nail polish is the one that lasts for about a week with minimum chipping. Therefore, even though I was very happy with how things were turning out, I had to wait and see how my nails would look at the end of the week. Well, I am happy to inform you that the nails did last for one full week with minor chipping. As a matter of fact, at the end of the week I wanted to change my color but I couldnt bring myself to it, because the nails were pretty descent looking.

Overall the new H&M nail polishes are amazing! Good quality and at a reasonable price (just 5 euros). They are easy and fast to apply, they dry extremely quickly, are very so shiny that you don’t even need a top coat. Also they last at least for a week with only little chipping. I am in love with them. And because the first nail polish I applied was a darker color (Plum Fool), I tried a lighter color as well (Paper Ash) to see if it’s the same and it was! It needed one more coat as it was very light but it was not annoying at all. I am aware of some fairly negative reviews out there but I personally disagree. I am very happy with them, as they are a bit more affordable than my favorite brand and equally lovely. Plus they dry faster than any nail polish I have used. I wouldn’t bring my self to buy a 10 $ or more nail polish (that’s just me), as I prefer to spend more money on other beauty products instead. In a nail polish I look for something cheap and of good quality, because I like to have many shades. Right now I have over 50 nail polishes so It would be crazy if I had spent over 10 $ for each. So for their price, these nail polishes are amazing. I don’t know how they would compete to a OPI one so this is not what I am saying here. In total I definitely recommend those nail polishes if you don’t wish to spend a lot of money and you are looking for a quality-price combination. Let’s not forget that more expensive doesn’t always mean better. Have you guys tried out these nail polishes and if so, what do you think? Which one is your favorite shade? Comment down below and share! Also don’t forget to pop over Instagram (@blueberrylover) and Twitter (@vickyinlalaland) and say hello!

NUTRIENT BOOSTERS: NUTS AND SEEDS

NUTRIENT BOOSTERS: NUTS AND SEEDS

2

We all know how beneficial fruits and vegetables are for a healthy body. However, they are not the only natural nutrient boosters out there. Seeds and grains are equally important for a healthy and balanced diet. Adding a few chia seeds or sunflower seeds to a smoothie or a granola can make a huge difference on the boost your body will get. I was never a fan of seeds or grains; not because I didn’t like them but because I never really put any thought to them. They were some sort of decorations to a food and not an actual food themselves. However, once I made up my mind to follow a healthier lifestyle, I did some research on how to improve my diet instead of completely changing it and I found out how wrong I was about poor seeds and nuts. They are anything but insignificant! Let’s take a better look at them shall we?

  • Chia seeds

Those little seeds that seem to be trending everywhere lately are actually extremely beneficial! They are a source of omega-3 fatty acids that protect the skin of sun damage and reduce inflammation. They also have protein which is important for healthy hair and nails and are full with fiber that can reduce bloating. They don’t have any taste really and you can add them to smoothies and juices or even create your won chia pudding. Once you mix them with liquid, they puff up and turn into a gelatin mixture that also keeps you full for longer. Perfect for breakfast or even for a quick snack!

  • Oats

Oh those misunderstood oats; I used to absolutely hate them. I couldn’t understand what was tasty and cool about them and why people ate them for breakfast. Then I started to use them in my Homemade Granola (see post) recipe and I fell in love with them. Now, having porridge for breakfast is my absolute favorite. Oats are rich in fibers which keeps the body full and energetic. They are low in fat and cholesterol and high in manganese, which is important for strong hair and nails. They have selenium which is an anti-aging factor and improves skin’s elasticity. They also balance sugar levels and can ease anxiety. They can help balance the mood, all thanks to vitamin B. You can toss them in a blender and make a nice smoothie or make your own granola, porridge and oatmeal. In general they are the ideal breakfast but you can also use them in cooking to coat meat and fish before baking. If you are gluten intolerant don’t forget to get gluten-free oats!!

  • Flaxseed

Flaxseed is a miracle booster! Flaxseed belongs in a category of seeds called, linseeds which are packed with vitamin B, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids. These are anti-inflammatory and help with the fat burning (fat is a sort of inflammation). I love use a tsp or two in my morning smoothie! Also rich in fiber they help with digestion and all sorts of stomach aches that come from indigestion. I have gastric reflex syndrome and I find it quite helpful when I add it to my smoothies.  You can add flaxseed anywhere; from smoothies to yogurt, granola and muesli. Just make sure to get the ground form as the proper seed ones are not digested and absorbed from the body.

  • Nuts (almonds and Brazilian nuts)

Nuts are a whole category of their own. They are packed with protein, vitamin E and B and fats which is why we should be careful of the quantities we use. A handful is more than enough. They are perfect for cakes, muesli, granola, porridge and as a snack on their own. If you have sudden cravings it’s a good idea to carry some with you so you can have a healthy yet filling snack. Out of all the nuts, my favorite ones are almonds and Brazilian nuts. Almonds are rich in vitamin B and magnesium which helps with the mood changes and stress, calcium which aids with sleep and relaxation and vitamin E which boosts immunity. You can use them as toppings in salads, muesli and yogurt. Also don’t forget almond milk and butter which are perfect substitutes to the animal based ones. Brazilian nuts, are rich in magnesium and vitamin B like almonds, but also contain selenium which helps with anxiety and has anti-aging properties, and zinc which helps with the hormone levels. You can also use them in salads and as toppings from breakfast to desserts. It’s better to buy your nuts raw and not roasted and soak them overnight before you intend to snack on them so they are easily digestible.

  • Pumpkin and sesame seeds

Those two different seeds are the latest addition to my pantry. I love using them in my homemade granola as well as in baking. Pumpkin seeds are the best source of zinc, which has anti-inflammatory properties and also promotes stronger hair and nails. They are also a great source for amino acids that help with anxiety and stress. They can help you wind down after a stressful day. Of course they have omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B and A, and loads of other goodies. Sesame seeds are very rich in calcium and magnesium both of which help with anxiety and stress. They have vitamin B1 and vitamin B6 that help promote a healthier nervous system and cal also relief the symptoms of PMS. You can add them everywhere; from Asian style dishes and humus to cookies, bread and bagels.

Although this post may seem long and full with terms, the bottom line is that you don’t have to base upon fruits and veggies for a healthy body and mind. You can also add nuts and seeds to your diet and you will get many benefits. They are great for strong hair, nails and younger skin, but also for a more relaxed and stress-free mind. They way I look at it, it’s a “Kill two birds with one stone” kind of thing. Which are your favorite recipes (smoothies, salads, anything!) with seeds and nuts? Comment down bellow or even share them on Instagram with the hashtag #mynuttyboost. I will go through your pictures and give them thumbs up! 70’S INSPIRED LOOK

70’S INSPIRED LOOK

12

Although it’s the middle of November, Greece has gone back to spring mode with warm and sunny weather. However, in the nightime it actually gets quite cold and a coat is mandatory. This is a lovely look for transitioning from the warm day to the chilly night. It is inspired by one of the biggest trends of this season, as mentioned on a previous post (see here), which is the 70’s hippie style. The A-line skirt along with the floral – bell sleeve top is a very bohemian combination. The earthly colors of the top are complimented by the forest green shoes and coat, which is also a very hot trend this season. This look is not the boldest 70’s look you can create, but I absolutely love it and I believe it is perfect for those who love the 70’s but are on the milder and more toned down side.

My favorite piece from the look is the skirt; this ASOS A-line high waisted skirt is very comfortable and flattering for my bodytype. It doesn’t emphasize on the hips or thighs and the buttons create a slimming effect. A denim skirt is such a versatile piece and can be work with everything, from tops and shirts to jumpers and hoodies. It is a must have piece for anyone’s wardrobe. The sheer, floral shirt with the bell sleeves is from ZARA and it’s gorgeous. Mustard yellow, brown and brick red are hot colors for autumn and winter. Although I don’t pick them often, I feel like this top compliments me and my reddish brown hair. I love how the sleeves give this boho vibe which this look is all about. I decided to match the outfit with a forest green coat from ZARA that I absolutely love and have for over a year, and a new pair of ankle boots from TOPSHOP in the same color. I believe that forest green, besides being a hot trend right now, it also goes pretty well with the colors of the top and adds a little something to a toned down, casual outfit. Finally, I picked this light brown bag from ZARA, because it seems like it puts the whole look together. Brown and green is a match made in heaven and you can see the color of the bag in the top! This outfit is a great introduction to the 70’s trend. It is quite casual and perfect for a warmer or colder weather! What do you guys think of the 70’s trend? BURBERRY VELVET FOUNDATION REVIEW

BURBERRY VELVET FOUNDATION REVIEW

blog today 089

Hello lovelies! I normally plan my posts for the week but this one was not planned at all. I was really excited about this product and I just had to share my thoughts with you guys! A couple of days ago I was out with my mom and while we were at this huge mall downtown Athens, I thought I could take a look at Burberry make up as I don’t own any of it and haven’t even tried any. So while I was there the makeup artist applied the Velvet Foundation on my hand which I didn’t like at first. I thought it was kind of thick and with quite some coverage for me. However, I ended up with it since my mom is a huge enabler!

blog today 094

Once I came home I decided to try it on my face and I was very surprised the moment I pumped it on my hand. Omg this is such an amazing foundation. The first thing I noticed is that the foundation is actually kind of watery (think of Armani Maestro Fusion), which means it is not thick at all. I applied it on my face (one pump was enough), and I was thrilled with the result. It was just as I hoped it would be; very sheer, easy to blend and barely noticeable. It’s crazy how easy and quickly it blended with my skin to such  a degree, that I couldn’t tell I was wearing any foundation at all. I love the sheer coverage on a foundation as I prefer a more natural look for my everyday makeup and I don’t really like burdening my skin with heavy products. I went for the shade 202 Trench which was the lightest they had and it has a pink undertone which is perfect for me. It brought out my pink cheeks but at the same time it somehow managed to lighten up my face and make it look brighter and clearer. Also once it set, my skin felt very smooth and soft, which is natural for watery foundations.

The only downfall I can think of is that apart from the 202 Trench shade, the rest were very dark for me. Not just a little dark but actually quite dark. In order to wear the next shade I had to have a tan. This means that there is no variety for people with fair skin. It’s like a hit and miss. Only one shade works. Luckily enough it worked for me.

I definitely recommend Burberry’s Velvet Foundation to everyone who is looking for sheer coverage to go with a more natural look. It is very rehydrating and has a velvet finish, as the name truly suggests. It is not very expensive for a high-end foundation (at 43 euros but I paid 39 after a 10% discount) which is a plus. It is so blendable and you really only need one pump to cover the entire face. It is such a value for money.  Do you guys have this foundation and if so what are your thoughts about it? Don’t forget to subscribe and also pop on Instagram (@bluberrylover) and Twitter (@vickyinlalalnd) and say hi!

PRETTY IN PINK

PRETTY IN PINK

From left to right: Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada

Pastel pink is one of my favorite colors. I love wearing it or looking at it as home décor. It is a color that for some reason makes me feel relaxed and happy, as I can’t help but associate it with candy ( I have a huge sweet tooth ). Pink is a color someone would expect to find in a spring or summer wardrobe, however, this season it is seen at the catwalk in brands like Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana and Prada. The shades of it vary; from pastel mixed with lavender, to shiny magenta and fuchsia. With pink, it’s important to pick the right shade; something that suits your hair and skin tone and of course something that you like. Don’t go for a total pink look because you risk looking like candy floss. Instead, add a nice pink piece to a wintery outfit and totally transform it. It can be either a clothing item or an accessory!

Some of my favorite pink items are a coat, a purse or a jumper. I love my LoveMoschino powdery pink purse, and my pink woolen coat from H&M (similar) that I got last year. Pairing a pink coat with jeans and a grey jumper is a cute and perfect look for winter. In converse, I love wearing my pink purse with my light grey woolen coat by ZARA`. In general grey-pink combination is one of my favorites! I also love my lavender ASOS jumper (similar) as it really brightens up a dull, casual winter look. But you don’t have to limit yourselves to these items; you can add a dash of pink on your feet with some fuchsia ankle boots like the ones from ASOS or wear a pink dress with a pair of black opaque tights (who doesn’t love a good contrast?)

Pink is such a girly color. It reminds me of sweets and sugar. However, this season, it is a hot trend to mix pink with traditional winter colors like grey, black and even forest green, and create fresh and bright outfits. This pop of color is exactly what this season is all about. Forget the dark, muted looks and make your winter wardrobe a little more sugary and light! Pink splashes don’t make an outfit less edgy; on the contrary, they make it edgier and more interesting! What are your favorite pink pieces and do you wear them in the winter? I would love to see your pink-drop winter outfits, so upload your ootd on Instagram and hashtag #adashofpink. MY 3 MORNING SMOOTHIES

MY 3 MORNING SMOOTHIES

4
From left to right: Strawberry Supercharge, Pear and Pineapple Detox, Berry Booster

Smoothies can transform your health”. That’s something we hear everyday from many people; from doctors and nutritionists to actors and celebrities. A smoothie per day can cover our body’s needs in fruits and vegetables. Since I can remember my self, I was a fruit lover, a vegetable hater and I had one massive sweet tooth. However, a few months ago, I decided it was about time to turn to a healthier lifestyle and this naturally means increased daily intake of fruits and veggies. As it is a bit difficult from a veggie hater to become a veggie lover, I realized that through juices or smoothies, I can still get everything a vegetable can provide in a much easier and less processed way.  I love how smoothies can help with everything: from losing weight and being healthier, to looking amazing and having a better mentality. Although you can enjoy a smoothie whenever you wish frankly, I love to have mine at the beginning of the day in order to cleanse my body and have a healthy jump-start. Here I chose to share 3 of my favorite smoothies which, besides being delicious, they are also very good for you!

Strawberry Supercharge

This smoothie is packed with lots of vitamins and will give you a perfect energy boost to start your day. Don’t forget apples are a natural source of sugar 😉   (Recipe fromThe Juice Bar)

Ingredients

1 ½ cup hulled strawberries

½ cup of pomegranate seeds

2 red apples

Some crushed ice (optional)

1

Simple as cake, all you need to do is to feed all the ingredients through a blender and pour the drink in a glass with or without ice.

Pear and Pineapple Detox

This smoothie is purely amazing! Perfect for detoxing, pears are full of antioxidants which also boost our immune system and help with fighting off diseases like the flu.    (Recipe from: 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse)

Ingredients

2 handfuls of greens (spinach, lettuce, chard etc)

1 pear

1 small apple

250g of pineapple

150g ice (or water)

2

Another simple recipe, you place the greens and the water in the blender first, and after you blend them for 10 seconds you add the rest of the ingredients.

Berry Booster

This smoothie is perfect for the skin. It hydrates it but also helps with blemishes and even wrinkles, all due to the berries full with vitamin C.    (Recipe from: The Juice Bar)

Ingredients

1 cup of strawberries

1 ½ cups of mixed berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries)

200 ml water (or ice)

3

For this recipe once again you mix all the ingredients together with the water or ice and then pour your smoothie in a nice cup!

I absolutely love smoothies. They are tasty, easy to make and packed with lots of goodies for our bodies. Having a smoothie in the morning is the perfect healthy jump-start for my day, as it gives me energy and keeps me full so no snacking until lunch! It’s an important step towards the healthier lifestyle I am trying to adopt. Those 3 smoothies are my favorite ones but don’t limit yourselves to them. That’s the great thing about them; you can improvise and create new and delicious ones based on your preferences! I would love to know your favorite smoothies and also if you try one from my favorite smoothies, snap a pic and upload it on Instagram with the hashtag #myperfectsmoothie!

MOROCCANOIL TREATMENT REVIEW

MOROCCANOIL TREATMENT REVIEW

Credit: http://www.moroccanoil.com/usa/countryselector?website=us&lang=en
Credit: http://www.moroccanoil.com/usa/countryselector?website=us&lang=en

Have you ever heard the words “I love how thick and long your hair is!” or “I wish I had your curls instead of my straight hair!”? And have you ever thought at this exact moment “Ugh don’t get me started with my hair!”? If the answer is yes, then, I am feeling you! All of you! Having long, curly, thick hair does not make life easy! For as long as I can remember, I have been struggling to tame my hair. At first, I was straightening it every single time I was washing it and I completely hated my natural curls. Where everyone saw beauty, I saw messy problems! However, a few years ago, I started to realize that all this intense straightening has potentially damaged my hair and no matter how much I loved seeming my hair straight,  I should take a break from it all. At first, it has hard to go around with my hair all crazy and frizzy; I was embarrassed and was genuinely hating it. But after researching for the proper tools and ways to style it, I came to actually really love my natural hair. However, no matter what I was trying, there was one thing I could never avoid: frizziness! The frizziness was driving me crazy. A little humidity and poof! My hair would put a lion’s mane to shame!

Although I have found a few products I really enjoy using and I am very satisfied with, they will be mentioned in another post! This one is dedicated to a product that I have tried only a handful of times, but they were enough to convince me that the raving reviews I have read everywhere, were all true. I have heard about Moroccanoil since a long time ago and I was very interested in trying it myself. So a week ago I ordered the Moroccanoil Treatment which is a hair oil that you can use either on dry or on dump hair. You apply only a small quantity that it is actually enough! I have long hair and I only use half a pump. I applied the product on my wet hair, layered my styling cream and then dried it. I was so happy with the result; my hair was so soft, it had a lovely sweet scent and it was visibly less frizzy than usual. What I loved the most however, was how soft and less tangled my hair was even after 2 days of being unwashed. Usually my hair gets very tangled and detangling it is a painful work. Since I started using the Moroccanoil, my hair is less and less tangled. Also it is less frizzy even on very humid days. I tried the product on dry hair as well before using my curling wand, as a heat protector and to smoothen it out; it worked like a charm! My curls were so silky and glowing. I have used the oil consistently for 5 times now and each time I end up very satisfied.

Moroccanoil hair treatment is basically an oil for dry or wet hair, that has a lovely scent and helps to control the frizziness. It leaves the hair soft, smooth and less tangled. It is not as frizzy and it even has a pretty shine. The oil doesn’t leave any residue or turn my hair greasy. When I first got it, I was excited yet doubtful due to all the disappointed products I had already tried. However, it proved to be an extremely pleasant surprise. Therefore, I recommend it to everyone as it is suitable for all hair types. Just give it a go and I promise you, you won’t regret it! I would love to know if you guys use Moroccanoil as well, and if you are happy with it! A FEW WORDS ABOUT ME AND MY BLOG

A few words about me…

229

Hello everyone! I know this post is not like my usual ones, but I would like to take the time and squeeze in between my fashion and beauty stories, a little post where I properly introduce myself and my blog. I am Vicky, a 28-year-old Marketing and Management graduate from Athens and I created my fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog a while ago. The reason why I started this blog, is the love i always had for fashion and which I wanted to share with you. To me fashion is a way to express myself; who I am at a particular moment in my life. I know this may sound like such a cliché but I believe that through the way we look, we try to convey ourselves to others and show who we are, what we like and what we believe. Therefore, fashion is a very important part of my life. It is all about inspiration and creativity, two factors that make life interesting. Besides fashion, my blog is also about beauty, as I feel that makeup is a huge playground full with toys I can play with in order to transform or just enhance my natural self. Lastly, my blog is also about food (healthy or not), music, books and home décor (another important part of my life). I put all the above in the lifestyle category, as they are general things I am interested in and I like to share here.

If you love fashion and can’t wait for the new issue of ELLE and VOGUE to come out so you can dig into all the newest trends and style icons, then you will feel right at home here. Also if you are a makeup hoarder because you just can’t have too many lipsticks and blushes then you won’t need to hide it here! Lastly, if you are looking for some home décor inspiration, or searching for some cool healthy smoothie recipes or even unhealthy, yet delicious cupcake ones, then hopefully you will enjoy my blog!

Reading other blogs for quite a while, made me realize that I should create my own blog and write about all the things I love and I am interested in. Blogging is an important part of my life. But far from blogging, I also love reading, travelling and Photography!  If you happen to pass by don’t forget to subscribe and come over to my Twitter and Instagram ( Vickyinlalaland, blueberrylover ) and say hello!

GREY AND THE CITY

 GREY AND THE CITY

blog 043

Happy Sunday everyone! Today is November 1st and finally winter has come to sunny little Greece. It is so crazy how the weather changed from almost summer to total winter in merely 10 days. As someone who gets cold very very easily, once the temperature dropped, I had to get all my winter clothes and coats out and pack my summer ones away. In this post I am sharing one of my favorite fall-winter casual looks. Whenever I leave the house on the daytime, my outfit will be a variation of this look. During winter, jeans, jumper and coat become my second skin. I feel so comfortable and cozy in a fluffy jumper and a pair of jeans, whereas a nice woollen coat is basically essential to cope with the coldness around me.

Grey is one of my favorite colors in general but even more in the winter.  It is the perfect neutral, as you can match it with practically everything and look flattering in it. What is better in a grey, cloudy day than a grey, woollen coat! My beautiful, grey ZARA coat is the centre piece of this look. It has the perfect length and has a A-shape which I really love. That is because I like to wear my coats unzipped/unbuttoned and layer underneath them therefore, my coats can’t be tight fitting. I teamed up my lovely coat with a fluffy, dark grey – almost black – jumper by Pull&Bear. I love this jumper! It’s my newest addition to my jumper collection. It’s quite long and very loose and stretchy, which makes it really cozy. A laid back look is only complete with the perfect pair of jeans. This pair of highwaisted, blue jeans is from ASOS. Guys I can’t explain how impressed I am with ASOS jeans. I started purchasing them in the summer and now I am completely addicted. I like how sturdy and thick this one is compared to my TOPSHOP ones. It is figure-hugging in a very flattering way. My Public Desire over the knee boots are just pure perfection; they elongate my legs and actually even slim them down! They give a boho, more feminine vibe and I love it! I could go on and on about them but instead of dragging the entire post, I have a separate post reviewing them you guys can check out! Last but not least, I am wearing my brown ZARA bag to finish up the look. This bag is so lovely and different from the majority of my bags. It has a ladylike shape I find very cute and girlie, and its chocolate brown color is versatile and perfect for the season. Since this look is rather neutral and minimalistic, with only 3 colors (blue, grey and black), a brown bag adds a pop of color and spices it all up a bit. This look is one of my autumn/winter favorites, because it is comfortable and cosy. It makes me feel relaxed yet feminine and the colors of the palette I use are a perfect representation of this season!

I am wearing

Pull&Bear Jumper in Dark Grey

ZARA Wool Coat
