blog my favorite cookbooks

Cooking is an important part of my life. There is just something about the moment of creativity when a bunch of raw ingredients transforms into a delicious meal, that fills me with joy. I don’t know where I got the love for cooking from; probably it was from my mom as she is the only cook in the house and for as long as I can remember her for, she was always in the kitchen making one of her specialties or experimenting with something new she saw on TV.  Cooking and creating new meals with a variety of ingredients is something I love doing whenever I get the chance; however, as I am fairly new to all this, my imagination is quite limited and therefore I have discovered the beauty of the cookbooks. My obsession resulted in one full bookcase self with all sorts of cookbooks.

This obsession has also been fueled by the change I am going through for the past few months towards a healthier lifestyle. I was never the healthiest person. I always loved food and above all, sweets. I was a full on sugar addict; however with the new year, I decided that a healthier diet would not be another new year’s resolution but something I would actually commit to. Therefore, in order to change my life and body towards the best, I got a bunch of healthy cookbooks which would offer not just recipes but also inspiration and motivation by changing my very food-mentality.  In this post, which is the first one on the lifestyle section, I will mention all my favorite cookbooks (healthy or not), and describe what they are about in a few words. This will not be a full review of the books; reviews might come later if they are requested or I feel like talking about a book in particular.

The first two books I love, they were a birthday present from my boyfriend, and are in the same vibe hence they are mentioned together; they are called Eat Yourself Calm and Eat Yourself Happy. Now these books are all about changing your mentality so you become a happier and less stressed person. In the first, they inform you of certain superfoods in each case, then they have a list of many different yet related problems such as high blood pressure, irritability, headaches, mood swings etc and finally present with a two-week diet plan as an example of what you could create on your own. In the second part, the have recipes divided in categories such as breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner and desserts. Each recipe addresses specific problems and they are usually not complicated and quite easy to make. I love the psychological approach of those books instead of weight loss targeting.

The next book that holds a special place in my heart is the Chelsea Market Cookbook. This book has all sorts of recipes like drinks, appetizers, soups, seafood, meat, baked goods etc, from the famous NYC Chelsea Market. This is an important book to me as when I was in NYC visiting my boyfriend (he lives there), we discovered this amazing place and fell in love with it, so i have some fond memories tied to this place and book. Located indoors of an old meat factory, there is a small world of many stores and vendors who sell all kinds of food, coffee, tea and sweets. Its something I hadn’t seen before. The book has recipes from many of the stores as well as pictures of the place and little tips from the people who work there (ie. how to choose the right cheese).

I had heard so many good words about the next book and it holds many positive reviews on Amazon so naturally, I had to have it. The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, is one of those homey books, packed with recipes from this amazing next door cook-turned blogger-turned author woman. Deb Perelman’s cookbook does not promise that you will lose weight following the recipes, or you will lead the healthiest diet, however each recipe is delicious, accompanied with mouth-watering pictures and a little story about its origins, which is a more personal touch.

The last two books are all about healthy eating. Firstly, The Skinnytaste Cookbook, which is by far my favorite. I love everything about it; the way it’s written, the short and sweet recipes and ingredients lists, the little tips in the side and of course the table of calories, fat, carbs etc that is part of each recipe. For someone (like me) who is in the process of losing weight and trying to follow a healthier lifestyle, a book with delicious yet healthy recipes, is necessary. The recipes cover everything from breakfast (I love the homemade granola recipe!!) to fishes, poultry, vegetables and meat. There are even desserts! And all with their calories information. Secondly, my newest addition, the Deliciously Ella. Now this book is quite different from the rest, as it contains vegetarian recipes so no meat included! I am not vegetarian as a person, but I wouldn’t mid at all to cut down on the meat I eat and opt for dishes with more vegetables. It is a simple book with simple and easy recipes, from grains and nuts to vegetables, juices and smoothies. It’s about a lighter, greener diet that doesn’t lack in flavor. I specifically love the little tips on how to make your own almond and rice milk,, your own almond butter and your own superfood bread. It’s a book full with positivity and little notes, that give the impression of a personal notebook or diary than that of a cookbook.

I know this is a long post, but it was so hard to leave some of these books out, as I honestly recommend them all. Each one, for its own reasons is amazing and handy. Either you want to lose weight or simple broaden your cooking knowledge, books are the way to go. Many of these books also combine taste with health which is a win-win situation for me. As I said before, I am a food lover; getting my hands on these books encouraged my love for cooking and turned it into a greater fun and joy. Do you like to cook and if so, what’s your favorite cookbook? Have you ever tried any of the books mentioned? Did you like it? I would love to hear your experiences, so comment down below and let me know!!

My favorite skincare products

Healthy and naturally glowing skin is very important to every girl! As spring is about to be over and summer has already stepped in and with the weather only getting hotter and hotter, I decided that this is the best time to share my favorite skincare products. The daily pampering of my skin is a ritual I never skip, even when I am extremely tired and sleepy. At the end of the day, I just can’t wait to remove all the make up and cleanse my skin; I just love to let it breathe and to feel it clean and smooth. Therefore, I am very excited to share with you guys the products that I absolutely trust and reach out daily.

Lancome Gel Eclat

KINHTO 251

What can I say about this cleanser? It is an amazing product. I am absolutely in love with it. I got it around Christmas, as I wanted to try something different from what I was using so far. I hadn’t used Lancome skincare products before and I was excited to try this on. From the first use I was simply blown away by it; only a little quantity – the size of a hazelnut- is enough to create massive foam and basically wash the entire face. Due to its flowery ingredients -Lotus and Rose- it has a lovely scent. Full with anti-oxidants, it deeply cleanses and purifies the skin. It is very easy to rinse off and my skin feels amazing afterwards; so smooth and soft! I use it almost every night after I remove my make up  however, when I feel that my skin is not very clean I might also use it in the morning.

Lancome Tonique Confort

KINHTO 250

I know some of you may be sceptical about the toners as products and if they are useful or not; well they do! After I remove the make up and cleanse my face, I use this amazing toner in order to remove any make up residues. It is very refreshing and moisturizing. Not only it purifies the skin completely and refreshes it but it also hydrates it and makes it more radiant and smooth. I love this toner so much! It is a necessary part of any skincare routine although it may seem as redundant.

Givenchy Hydra Sparkling moisturizing cream

KINHTO 249

I have tried many moisturizers over the years and although I was satisfied by some, I always like to experiment with my routine and try new ones. Therefore, I decided to get the Givenchy one as I never had any skincare products from this brand. I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and hydrated my face felt after only one use, due to the cream’s velvet finish. I absolutely love this moisturizer! On the downside though, this cream has quite a strong perfume scent. Even though it doesn’t bother me, I understand why it may bother some. In total it is an amazing cream with a velvet finish that highly hydrates my skin and I use it every night as the last step of my routine.

Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Face Polish

KINHTO 244

Oh my this exfoliator!! It is so gentle and soft and it smells lovely! Just a very small quantity is more than enough for the entire face! With circular gentle motions I exfoliate my face once a week or whenever I feel my face is not in its best state and it could do with some extra pampering. When I first tried it on my hand I was shocked as to how soft my skin was afterwards, that I had to get it! It doesn’t irritate my skin and it is not too harsh on it! On the contrary it’s one of the silkiest exfoliators I have ever used! Now it’s my go to exfoliator!

APIVITA Suncare cream with SPF 50+

KINHTO 245

With summer just around the corner, it is important not to forget the sunscreen as part of our everyday routine. Even when I don’t have makeup on I always manage to apply some sunscreen on my face as it has the most sensitive skin of our body and therefore, it gets damaged easily. I got this sunscreen as I love Apivita for the natural ingredients it uses on its products. This specific one has sea lavender and algae and it is fragrance and parabens free. It is absorbed immediately by my skin without making it shiny or oily and it doesn’t smell at all. It is perfect for under my make up and with its SPF 50 it’s the perfect weapon against the damaging sun rays. Don’t forget to invest on a good, high protection sunblock for the face!

Fresh Sugar lip polish + Fresh Sugar tinted lip treatment

KINHTO 248

Guys this winter was a disaster for my lips. Because of the cold almost for the whole winter my lips were dehydrated and chapped; the Fresh lip polish literally saved my lips! Only a bit of it was enough to exfoliate and condition my lips. They were so smooth afterwards, I couldn’t believe it! And the orange and sugar taste of it is just amazing! We all know how sugar is a natural exfoliant and a very tasty one as well! After exfoliating my lips I used the Fresh tinted lip treatment to seal the moisture; this lip balm is the bomb! It is hydrating, it gives a natural tint on the lips and it also has SPF 15 to protect them from the sun! The cherry flavor is a plus 😉

Clarins eye contour gel + Origins GinZing eye cream

KINHTO 247

I mention these products as a duo because I use them together every night. My biggest eye problem is my dark circles that are quite intense especially when I am tired. Therefore, Clarins eye gel is perfect as it cools them off, reduces the puffiness and fights the persistent dark circles. The gel form is very refreshing and not heavy at all unlike any eye serum. Following the gel, I use the famous Origins GinZing eye cream which is perfect for me as not only it fights puffiness as well but it also brightens the dark under eye area. Although it is quite a thick cream, it is absorbed immediately from the skin and it doesn’t feel greasy at all. It makes my eyes look less tired in the next morning.

There you go! I know it might be quite a long list but I felt compelled to mention all the skincare products I am in love at the moment because they are perfect for my skin and therefore a part of my daily routine! And don’t forget how important it is to take good care of not only your skin but also your eyes and lips, as they all deserve a little pampering 🙂

SPRING – SUMMER 2015 TRENDS: Pretty Ballerina

SPRING-SUMMER 2015 TRENDS

Chapter 2

Prima Ballerina

Ballerina in catwalks SS 2015

Good morning everyone! I am so excited to welcome you all to my new blog. Not much has changed though, and in this spirit the first post of this blog will follow the last post of my old blog. The second trend of this year’s spring and summer season, is one of my personal favorites; the prima ballerina. Oh my how beautiful are the clothes of  this trend! As a major fan of this type of dance due to its elegance and romantic notion, I couldn’t be more excited when brands such as Armani, Chloe and Lanvin incorporated it to their spring collections. This trend’s key pieces range from tulle dresses to nude sheer shirts and pleated skirts, paired with metallic accessories like silver gladiator shoes for a little glamming up. Although the colour palette is mostly neutral and pink, aquatic shades are also quite popular as they add something extra and different on this old trend. Just take a look at this beautiful Valentino maxi dress pictured below; isn’t it just breathtaking?

But don’t worry girls! If brands like Lanvin and Valentino are a bit out of your reach, you can still emulate the beautiful ballerina trend; brands such as ASOS, Missguided and Topshop, carry some equally beautiful pieces and far more affordable. I personally fell in love with this gorgeous ASOS dress. That little bow belt adds some extra girlyness to this romantic piece. Or that lovely mint tulle skirt. It’s so elegant and pretty. And lets not forget the accessories. Either it is a pair of ballet pumps in rose gold or a cute little silver belt, accessories are always an important touch to every outfit as they are the ones that pull the outfit together. Lately I am so in love with everything rose gold lately from jewelry to purses and shoes. I believe that they are the perfect match to such an ethereal and feminine outfit.

The beautiful and feminine ballerina is one of this season’s major trends. Covered in tulle and sheer clothes that create an ethereal figure, you can emulate a beautiful white (or black) swan! You can pair it with flats for a fresh everyday look or team it with heels to add some glamor. Enrich your wardrobe with some key pieces and you are ready to join the Bolshoi 😉  Do you dare to come in touch with your inner dancer?
